LIFEGUARD
The Lifeguard is able to:

Organize and manage seaside emergencies in any condition;
work for the protection of the natural environment involved in seaside activities;
prevent, promote, enhance and educate on seaside safety;
manage relations with the Port Authorities, 118, other associations/bodies for the purposes of bathing safety.

Training
The Lifeguard is a highly specialized rescue professional to implement the public surveillance and rescue service.
The SNS training courses qualify the profession and prepare the BdS for the management of seaside emergencies.

The skills
The set of skills and knowledge that allow one to carry out the profession of lifeguard can be divided into personal, relational and specialist:

water rescue techniques (sea, rivers, lakes, swimming pools);
maritime techniques (marine knots, rowing, etc.);

legislative standards of the sector.

Requirements for enrollment in the “Lifeguard” course
To enroll in the "Lifeguard" course at one of our Territorial Sections you must:

– be a member of the National Rescue Society;
– have swimming skills;
– be in suitable psychophysical conditions;
– be aged between 16 and 55;
– be an Italian citizen, a citizen of the European Union, or be in possession of a residence permit if a non-EU citizen.

It is free for soldiers on duty and members of the police forces (when registering, a certificate of service issued by the command to which they belong must be delivered).

Enrollment in the “Lifeguard” course
To obtain professional qualification you need:
– be a member of the National Rescue Society;
– register and attend the professional training course;
– be admitted to the final exam;
– successfully pass the final qualification exam.

Lifeguards can do a lot for the safety of others, not only from a professional point of view, but also of concrete help and solidarity, living a unique experience of openness towards others.
Young people, through the SNS courses, develop their personal growth by creating a mentality of active approach in Civil Protection volunteering, developing a sense of responsibility towards the environment, acquiring a sense of supportive and active citizenship.

The Lifeguard License not only offers the opportunity to work in the open air, but also to carry out an important service for the community, volunteering, social commitment and Civil Protection activities.
